What to Expect After Microneedling treatment

Standard aftercare focuses more on gentle skin care, sun protection, avoiding irritation, and monitoring for infection. The American Academy of Dermatology advises waiting 24 hours before applying makeup after microneedling. 

• Mild redness, swelling, warmth, tightness, or sensitivity can occur for 24-48 hours.

• Some patients may notice mild dryness or light flaking for several days.

• Most people return to normal activities within 1-2 days.

For the First 24 Hours

• No makeup for at least 24 hours. If your skin is still irritated or very red, wait 48 hours before applying makeup. American Academy of Dermatology

• Avoid touching, rubbing, picking, or scratching the treated skin.

• Use only a gentle cleanser and bland moisturizer recommended by your provider.

• Avoid retinol/retinoids, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, exfoliating acids, scrubs, benzoyl peroxide, and other irritating active products.

• Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, saunas, steam rooms, and very hot showers.

Sun Protection

• Minimize direct sun exposure, especially during the first several days.

• Wear a wide-brimmed hat when outdoors.

• Once the skin can comfortably tolerate sunscreen, use a broad-spectrum SPF 30?50 every day and reapply when outdoors.

For the Next 48-72 Hours

• Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes, and other water exposure that may increase irritation or infection risk.

• Avoid waxing, chemical peels, facials, laser treatments, or other aggressive skin treatments until the skin has healed.

• Continue gentle cleansing and moisturizing.

• Do not peel or pick at flaking skin.

• Contact the clinic if you develop increasing redness, warmth, swelling, worsening pain, pus/drainage, fever, or other signs of infection.

Recommended Treatment Series

• For best results, most patients benefit from 3?6 treatments spaced about 4?6 weeks apart.

• Maintenance treatments may be recommended based on individual skin goals and response.

Treatment may not be appropriate for patients with:

• Active skin infections

• Open wounds

• Active acne cysts

• Pregnancy or breastfeeding (depending on provider protocol)

• Certain autoimmune or bleeding disorders
